I wanted to kick off Onward Sister with my two moms. My birth mother, Sandy, and my godmother, Gloria. Their story as best friends began in Middle School.
“Sandy, what is something you remember about Gloria when you were first friends?”
“Gloria was the quietest of my core friends in Middle School and really sweet. We had a lot of fun, but became closer in high school.
“I remember her liking a boy in the neighborhood, but she was too shy. So, she made me go with her to talk to him and his friends. So, I introduced myself and flirted, then introduced her. The funny thing is, he was her future husband of 50 years.
“We became really close through the years, raising our kids together.”
“What do you love the most about Gloria?”
“She is giving. She is just a friend who is always there for you, no matter what. She would give you anything she has. Her parents were kind people, too. They had a lot of influence on Gloria and kids like me.
We have a special kinship. I feel like our lives were spliced together. It’s hard to explain, but she really feels like my sister.”
